![]() While there have been negative and positive impacts of the emergence of women's human rights on the overall body of international human rights this paper notes and concludes that more should be done. This paper begins with a historical backdrop of women's human rights, then moves on to the conventions and conferences that promoted women's human rights, with a special emphasis on the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Despite general understanding that women are routinely exposed to torture, abuse, sexual harassment, humiliation, and exploitation and this continues to be the case and obviously in violation of internationally recognized human rights principles. ![]() The women's human rights caucus at the 1993 World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna made it apparent to the world that much of what women encounter in their daily lives as abuse has remained concealed to a greater extent outside of the mainstream of international human rights. ![]()
